The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lion ‘Pride of the West’ are an award-winning band from Glendale, Arizona. They have a superb marching show as well as 3 superior concert bands. Under the direction of George Hattendorf, the ‘Pride of the West’ has represented Arizona during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration parade in Washington, DC where they performed for President Obama. In 2011, the band was selected to represent the state of Arizona at the 70th Anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii, where the band gave performances at the USS Missouri, USS Arizona and marched in the Waikiki Holiday Parade honoring our World War II veterans. Past performances have also included the Tournament of Roses Parade and the Fiesta Bowl Parade and Band Pageant. The group consistently takes top honors in all concert and marching events in which they have participated. During the football season, they can be heard in the stands as well as performing their unique pre-game and halftime show.

The Ridge band also travels to many competitions throughout the year such as NAU, ASU and U of A band days as well as many ‘in town’ events, like the Phoenix Veteran’s Day Parade. During the 2011-2012 ‘Virtue-osity’ season, they received Superior with Distinction at the ABODA State Marching Band Festival and moved on to capture Third Place at the ABODA State Marching Championships. During the winter and spring months, they offer three separate concert bands - Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds and Symphonic Band. These groups consistently receive Superior ratings at concert events. The Color Guard also participates in Winter Guard competitions and in 2011 was Scholastic A National Gold Medalist. Mountain Ridge also has an award winning Jazz program led by Assistant Director, Mike Warner.
